dermoscopy not relevant for black bleeding nodules

dermoscopy not relevant

6 month history of growing black nodule, now bleeding. Elderly white sun damaged skin. histology-nodular melanoma, high mitotic rate.

Dermoscopy is irrelevant to a lesion like this. The diagnosis of melanoma is almost certain on the clinical picture and urgent excision for histology is mandatory.  The value of dermoscopy should not be exaggerated, it is part of a holistic system of lesion recognition that begins with an understanding of the natural history of benign and malignant skin lesions and proceeds through history taking and examination.
