2014 skin cancer diagnosis course
The 2014 South Coast ‘Integrated Skin Lesion Recognition and Dermoscopy ‘ course will run at Fareham, Hampshire on Friday afternoons 28th March and Friday 13 June. As usual delegates will receive a virtual textbook on USB key at the first session and be enrolled into a Google group for on line case discussions between the 2 expert speaker half days. This has proved to be a successful way of reinforcing learning.
This is the course’s fourth year. Obviously I’m biased as the designer and lead presenter of the course, but I have heard from several local doctors who have attended in past years and seen a significant reduction in their avoidable skin cancer referrals while picking up more early melanomas. I have learned from the best UK and European dermoscopy specialists and tried to make this the best dermoscopy course in the UK. I don’t claim it is the best but I believe it to be the best value course. The only other course I know of that includes 3 months of on line case discussions is the Cardiff dermoscopy course, which costs £995. I have done the Cardiff course and it is very good, I recommend it, but I’m not sure its 5 times as good for costing 5 times as much as my course.
Open to any health care professional, the South Coast skin lesion and dermoscopy diagnosis course is designed primarily for GPs, specialist dermatology nurses and trainees in dermatology and plastic surgery, the course will also be of interest to occupational health doctors who wish to screen for skin cancer at places of work, community nurses, elderly care physicians etc. Podiatrists/chiropodists are also welcome, I know from experience they see skin cancers incidentally in their work.
Full cost is £200, early booker price £160 if booked by 15th February. For a full course prospectus email me at steveappleseed at hotmail dot co dot uk. Fareham is 20 minutes from Southampton airport and about 2 hours from central London by rail (depending on connections) and 5 minutes off junction 9 of the M27. Hope to see some of you there.
