International Dermoscopy Conference Winchester 12/13 June 2020

Dear medical and nursing friends who are involved in diagnosis and education around skin cancer.

I am very pleased to announce that I and colleagues are working to deliver an international dermatoscopy conference in Winchester, England’s ancient capital, on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June 2020. This will have an innovative design for maximum appeal to beginners, improvers, experts, and in particular those who aspire to teach others skin lesion recognition skills.

Friday 12th will be aimed at doctors and nurses who have made a start, or are about to make a start, in using the hand held skin microscope for lesion recognition. Saturday 13th will be aimed at the more experienced user, from intermediate to expert level. This division (although actually the 2 day conference will be seamless) is built in for those who can only come to one day, not both. Having said that, I am very much encouraging delegates to come to both days, with a view to learning as much as possible from the best international presenters.

The conference will be held at Winchester Guildhall . I have secured agreement from six highly regarded international speakers, leading figures in the International Dermoscopy Society. I am not releasing their names just yet but we are talking the best in the world and I really mean that.

Delegate fees will be at the lower end of the range for this kind of event with discounts for early booking and for booking both days, in the region of £300 for both days. Prices will be in Euros for colleagues coming from continental Europe, as a goodwill gesture given the complications over Brexit. This amounts to approximately 15% discount for our dear friends from France, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Holland (etc) at today’s exchange rate. Accommodation over Friday night is not included, but I hope to negotiate a deal with local hotels. It is hoped to arrange some form of social event for Friday night for which a modest extra fee will be payable.

Winchester is 75 minutes from central London by train and 15 minutes from Southampton airport, which has many direct flights from all around the British Isles and international airports like Paris, Amsterdam, Bergerac, Dublin, Belfast, Jersey, Dusseldorf, Verona, Balearic Islands and others. There is a lot to see in Winchester and surrounding areas, it’s a nice location to bring your loved one for a few extra days travel, food and culture. Great cultural locations such as London, Oxford, Salisbury, Brighton, Portsmouth, Bristol, Bath, Cardiff and others are 2 hours or less by rail for day trips should the visitor choose to stay on for an extra day or two.

More details later. Bookings should be open by the end of June, but hold the date-this will be a very significant conference in the world of skin cancer diagnostics in the UK.

Delegates will receive a memory drive with as many of the conference presentations as I can secure speaker agreement for (I hope all), plus a huge amount of additional learning material from my personal collection, including hundreds of annotated skin lesion images which can be freely used to teach others. This memory drive will be a powerful learning and teaching resource. I will be 65 (God willing) next year and would like to pass on what I can to aspiring and established teachers before I retire.

Health care professionals working in the field of skin cancer diagnostics, hold the dates 12/13 June 2020, Winchester. If you hate skin cancer, you’ll love this conference.
